A little while ago I sent a dm to a photographer I admire. I asked him if I could join him on his next shoot to which he replied yes! A few days later he invited me to join him and a few friends to take photographs.
We arrived at 6 am the Saturday, it was extremely cold and windy. I was stupid enough to wear sandals in 9 degree weather. But I showed no fear. At first we were told we needed a permit to take photos there, but as my lecturer always says :”If they are going to kick you out anyway, take the photo.” So we did.
We took photos around Menlyn Maine and the Casino. Alex Shapiro, @someshap, organized the whole event with a model and other photographers. I paid close attention to his techniques. He directed the model constantly, tried a bunch of angles and played with the shadows from the rising sun.
I took a few photos, applying what I learned from him.
After taking photographs we all went to Old Town Italy and had coffee and breakfast. We chatted about everything from photography to our lifestyles. I made some great connections and felt myself as part of the group. I was calm from the start and felt like I belonged.
I am very excited to go to the next instameet.
