My day started off with meeting Zonè (@zoneoberholzer) at her house and then meeting Alex (@Someshap) at a coffee shop. When we got there he was already there, trying to sneak in a muffin.
The reason Alex was there was because he was teaching me how to shoot videos. He told me about concepts, showed me how to use the tripod, talked about the settings and taught me how to use b-roll. His most important step though, was SUNSCREEN. I was happy he had some because I tend to burn very easily. Just ask my Highschool’s rugby team of 2016…
Anyway, Zonè was the model and Alex the teacher. We spent roughly 2-3 hours shooting, re-shooting and planning out the rest. I had an incredible time. The only thing that did suck was the spider on the tree. It was quite big and really blended it with the surroundings… but I digress.
My inspiration for the video was a song by Dodie called 6/10. I fell in love with the vibe and mood of the song and ended up planning my video accordingly.
I found that making videos is another way to express myself creatively. I still have a long way to go, but as with photography, I know it will be worth it.
I encourage everyone to try new things. To me, doing videos always seemed daunting, but once I tried it I realized how much I loved it. I stepped out of my comfort zone and from that discovered something new that changed the way I see things now. I don’t just see the photograph anymore, I see the potential video too.
